Accelerate to Gain Balance

Weekly Wisdom #10

In life, we’re often reminded that some of our wildest dreams and aspirations fail. Regardless of the work, sweat and tears we pour into some of our ideas, they don’t get off the ground. Our society makes it seem as though success is easy to achieve. But, if you have ever had any success, you know that the initial push to get going is the hardest.

Once we realize it’s about the journey and our reaction to our failure, we’re able to rise to our next challenge and take yet another step.
We want our business pursuits to yield success and our personal lives to skyrocket, but how do we define success beyond financial returns and blissful relationships? We all know there are no guarantees of success, either personally or professionally, but I can guarantee that there are returns far beyond our investments if we’re willing to take a few hits and survive some bumps along the way. If we’re able to tap into our intentions, getting rid of the things that don’t serve us, and turn our missteps into learning experiences, our growth will be exponential.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” – Albert  Einstein

Accelerate to gain balance.
This simplifies big goals in short order. For example, when a child first learns to ride a bike, they’re struggling, contemplating between balance and speed. All too often in life, we try to strike a compromise between the comfortable spot of balance before we actually accelerate or pedal.

Unfortunately, success doesn’t work that way. Only when we accelerate, do we learn how to find balance and establish a comfortable cruising speed. But the first, and most crucial step we must take is that push – when our feet leave the pavement and the journey is underway

In order to reach any goal; you must take the first step (push) to get going.  Success involves taking the first “push” off the ground while having the faith that you will find the momentum and balance as you go.

Here are some ways to keep your forward momentum:

  1. Set an Outrageous Goal – Make sure this is the one goal you are absolutely passionate about, the one that gives you an all over “fuzzy” feeling just thinking about. It is also the hardest to achieve. Now, allow the vision of achieving it motivate you; the potential payoff is huge.
  1. Be Prepared –Don’t waste time mulling over the past mistakes. Simply put, dig out those goals, revamp your approach and keep moving forward. You don’t know when the next opportunity is going to come your way; you need to be prepared for it. Your ability to be agile and able to accelerate will give you balance down the road.
  1. Get Some Air –That’s right. Get out of that windowless, arid conference room, home office or coffee shop (you use as an office.) Do what you must, to lift your spirit and clear your mind and move away from the monotony that keeps you complacent and taking that first push.
  1.  Be Flexible – Evaluate your goals and values. What is most important to you? Maybe you need to upgrade a skill or acquire a new one but get specific about your goals and then create a plan, incorporating flexibility for those times you can’t find your speed.
  1. Once You Really Get Some Momentum Going, Don’t Be Afraid –The scary flipside of momentum is the adrenalin rush we feel when we find our edge. It’s in those moments that we can truly realize our potential and follow through on our dreams.

This was the first book that I have read by Grant Cardone and I must say that I enjoyed it.  10X offered some great motivational insights about how important it is to set big and lofty goals. 10X was one of those books that would really benefit the individual who is just getting started in the Personal Development world. Here are some of the main highlights that I took away from the book:

–  Extraordinary is anything outside the realm of what most people can/do achieve

– We all have extraordinary goals, but the person who achieves that goal is not the person that we are yet.  We must adapt and change to meet those extraordinary goals.

–  Your last breath of air was important, but not nearly as important as your next breath of air.  You must keep moving forward

– When you limit the amount of success that you want, You limit the effort that you put in.

– Massive thoughts must be followed by massive actions.
